Our Family owned cottage in the Hills of Kodaikanal.
Down a quiet, tree-lined lane off Lloyds Road, Springdale Villa has stood since the early 1900s — a stone cottage our family has cared for, built by hand from the rare blue granite of these hills.
The thick stone keeps the rooms cool through sunny afternoons and holds the warmth of the fireplace on the coldest nights. Around it lie 2 acres of fully fenced, old garden and meadow, wrapped in trees far older than the house: a 200-year-old eucalyptus at their heart, with few more well past 150 standing alongside.
From the glass-walled sunroom you look out across the meadow, split along its length by a hand-cut stone staircase that climbs gently to the front door.
Inside, the cottage has been carefully renovated while the original stonework was left just as it was built — antique furniture and classic tiled bathrooms beside every comfort you'll want on a hill-station holiday.
And though it feels worlds away, the lake, Coaker's Walk and the town are barely 1.2 km off — the quiet of the hills without the long drive to reach it.
Mornings begin with mist settling over the grass and squirrels moving through the canopy; evenings drift toward the fireplace, or an open campfire near the trees.
